MidState Magic Spring/Summer Tryouts

Thank you for your interest in MidState Magic Basketball. Our Spring/Summer program is designed for student-athletes who are committed to developing their skills, competing at a high level, and embracing a culture centered around hard work, growth, and the MidState Standard. The MidState Magic season typically runs from February through July, although the length of the season and level of participation may vary by team. Tournament schedules, practice schedules, and season details will be communicated to families following team selection and roster formation.

Participation in tryouts does not guarantee placement on a MidState Magic team. Team selections are based on player evaluations, roster needs, and overall fit within the MidState Magic program and culture.

Players selected to a team will be notified within two (2) days following the final tryout session for their age group. We appreciate every athlete who comes out to compete and thank all players and families for their interest in MidState Magic Basketball.

  • Age Groups: 4th Grade – 11th Grade
  • Tryout Period: February–March (exact dates, times, and locations will be announced
    closer to tryouts)
  • Tryout Fee: $40 per athlete
  • Fee Covers: All scheduled tryout sessions unless approved by Director
  • Team Notification: Within 2 days of the final tryout

MidState Magic is a competitive travel basketball program. Participation requires a significant commitment from both athletes and families throughout the Spring and Summer season, which typically runs from February through July. Team practices, tournaments, travel, and program activities are all important components of the experience. We encourage families to attend tryouts only if they are prepared to fully commit to the season should their athlete be selected.

Athletes who become part of the MidState Magic family are expected to uphold the MidState Standard by demonstrating a positive attitude, strong work ethic, coachability, respect for teammates and coaches, and a commitment to continuous improvement. Our culture is built on being Rooted In The Work, and we are looking for players and families who are ready to embrace that commitment both on and off the court.

All athletes must complete the registration process and required waivers prior to attending tryouts. Athletes who have not completed registration and waiver requirements will not be allowed to participate.

MidState Magic Program Fees

Thank you for your interest in MidState Magic Basketball. Our program fees help support the operation of the organization and provide student-athletes with a competitive, development-focused experience throughout the Spring and Summer season. Fees help support tournament entry fees, gym and facility rentals, player development opportunities, equipment, and other costs associated with operating the MidState Magic program throughout the season.

Program fees may vary based on team schedule, travel requirements, tournament participation, and other season-related factors.

Program fees may include:

  • Team practices
  • Tournament entry fees
  • Coaching and player development
  • Access to program resources and events

Tournament schedules vary by team and age group. While schedules may change from season to
season, teams can generally expect:

  • 4th–8th Grade Teams: Approximately 6 tournaments
  • 9th–12th Grade Teams: Approximately 8 tournaments

Tournament schedules will be communicated following team selection and roster formation.

Athletes selected to a MidState Magic roster must accept or decline their roster spot within three (3) days of receiving their team invitation. Failure to respond within the required timeframe may result in the roster spot being offered to another athlete.

MidState Magic will provide each athlete with a game uniform for use during the season. Uniforms remain the property of MidState Magic and must be returned at the conclusion of the season.

Uniforms not returned at the conclusion of the season will result in a replacement fee.

Athletes are responsible for providing their own basketball shoes and any additional equipment they choose to use.

A payment schedule will be provided following roster acceptance. Families are responsible for ensuring all payments are made by the established due dates. Timely payments help the program secure tournament registrations, facility rentals, and other season-related commitments.

Failure to remain current on program fees may result in the athlete being suspended from team activities and/or removed from the MidState Magic program.

Returned payments and unpaid balances may be subject to additional fees.

Participation and playing time are not guaranteed and are earned through effort, attitude, attendance, preparation, performance, and team needs.

Families with multiple athletes participating in the program may be eligible for a sibling discount. Please contact MidState Magic staff for additional information.

MidState Magic encourages families to participate in fundraising opportunities throughout the season to help offset program costs and reduce their out-of-pocket expenses, if needed.

Program fees do not include travel expenses. Families are responsible for their athlete’s travel, lodging, meals, and other personal expenses associated with tournaments and team travel.

Families should be prepared for local, regional, and/or out-of-state travel depending on team placement and tournament schedule.

Tryouts and Program fees are non-refundable.

Program fees will not be prorated for missed practices, tournaments, team events, injuries, vacations, or voluntary withdrawal from the program.

Tournaments are one OR two-day events that are held on Saturdays and Sundays. Sometimes games can be played on Fridays (this can vary, as sometimes HS athlete may play Thursdays)
